N2 Troubleshooting
Daniel Mullany guides you through the troubleshooting steps necessary when your SRD (Spin Rinse Dryer) encounters N2 (Nitrogen) Pressure Loss. Whether you’re a seasoned technician or new to SRDs, this step-by-step guide offers clear instructions and practical tips to identify and resolve N2-related issuesโensuring your tool stays up and running.
Tools Needed:
- Multimeter or jumper wire (for sensor testing)
Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Understand the Alarm
N2 pressure loss occurs when the system’s 20 PSI switch doesnโt detect sufficient nitrogen pressure. This prevents the SRD from running, acting as a critical fail-safe for system integrity.
2. Verify the Alarm Condition
- If your SRD uses the SITEK SlickDevice Controller, youโll see a clear N2 Pressure Loss alert on the touchscreen.
- If your system uses a PSC 101 or 102 controller, the tool will still alarmโthough without a graphic interface.
3. Clear the Alarm
- On SlickDevice: Go to the Alarm Screen, tap the N2 icon, then press Return.
- On PSC controllers: Press the Stop button on the front panel to reset the alarm.
4. Check the 20 PSI Pressure Sensor
- Locate the 20 PSI switch (usually mounted near the N2 supply line).
- Disconnect both Quick Connect fittings from the sensor.
- Temporarily jump the two connections.
- If this clears the alarm, the pressure switch has failed and needs replacement.
- SITEK sells replacements for this common consumable.
5. Consider Facility Issues
If replacing the sensor doesn’t help, the issue may be upstream:
- Undersized N2 Line: Ensure the facility line is large enough for proper N2 flow.
- Improper Tees: Avoid splitting a single N2 source to two chambers.
- Shared Regulators: Each chamber should have its own dedicated regulator.
- Flow-Limiting Regulators: Even if line size is correct, internal restrictions in the regulator can cause problems.
Remember: While it may appear as a single unit, a dual-chamber SRD functions as two independent tools. Proper N2 delivery to both chambers is critical.
